Through Branches was created from a complex layering of shadows while looking upward through a wall of greenery and flowers toward the sky. The unexpectedly bright colors and shifting shadows became the starting point for a more vivid approach to painting. Created during my first experiments with painting outdoors in California, the work marked the beginning of my exploration of bright color within my light series.
